Guise is a luminaire by Stefan Diez for Vibia. It has been recently awarded with a German Design Award 2018 and with the prestigious Red Dot for its technical innovation and quality in design.
This luminaire is marked by its invisible light source, that is, it is hidden and it seems that the LED light emanates directly from the material. The light is regulated by bringing the hand closer, without the need for direct contact thanks to a special sensor.
Guise is made with engraved glass tubes and high precision cutting with embedded LEDs. Its creator sought to explore the relationship between light and transparency of the material and for this he used a factory in the Czech Republic specialised in hand-blown glass carving.
Stefan Diez has taken 10 years to develop the collection. It is inspired by the light signs and digital screens. This technique has never been applied to luminaires and that is why it makes it unique.
The collection is available in the vertical and horizontal versions, which allows it to be installed creating a visual impact adapted to the space. You can make combinations or install them separately.
The wall lamp has a different concept from the rest of the collection. The luminaire consists of a glass ring that generates a circular glow and when it is lit reminds us of a solar eclipse.
“If the light is on, it fades, the luminaire comes alive. When it is off, the glass melts on the surface. Therefore, turning it on or off has a dramatic effect on the atmosphere”, says the designer in the video Stories Behind Guise.
The collection is available in matt lacquered graphite finish and you can find it in Biosca&Botey.
